Situated within the province of Thừa Thiên - Hue, Chan May Port is strategically positioned as Vietnam's primary category 1 seaport. It stands at the midpoint of the maritime route linking Singapore, Philippines, and Hong Kong, China.

Overview of Chan May Port


Chan May Port is a category 1 comprehensive seaport in Vietnam and is among the 46 Asian yacht harbors selected by the Asian Yachting Association as stopover points for yachts in the Southeast Asia region.



Positioned centrally between the two major cities of the Central region (Hue - Da Nang), Chan May Port is surrounded by key national tourism attractions (Cảnh Dương - Lăng Cô - Hải Vân, Bạch Mã National Park), the national tourism city of Hue, and acts as the closest and most convenient gateway to the East Sea for the Eastern-Western Economic Corridor.


Chan May Port boasts two piers with a total length of 760 meters and a depth ranging from -9.4 meters to -12.5 meters. Pier 1 spans 480 meters, while Pier 2 stretches 280 meters.


These piers can accommodate cargo ships up to 50,000 DWT, container ships of 2,800 TEUs, and passenger ships up to 362 meters in length, with a combined total capacity of 225,282 GRT.


These capabilities position the port to accommodate the latest and largest cruise ships in the world.


Future Outlook


Mr. Phan Ngọc Thọ, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thừa Thiên - Hue province, outlined the port's development plan. By 2020, Chan May Port will feature 6 comprehensive cargo piers totaling 1,680 meters in length.



By 2030, the port's infrastructure will expand to include 8 comprehensive cargo piers spanning 2,280 meters, a dedicated petroleum pier measuring 240 meters, and a dedicated tourism pier for 100,000 GT cruise ships.


According to the plan, Chan May Port's cargo throughput is expected to reach around 8.9 - 10.2 million tons per year by 2030. The port's cargo terminals will serve as comprehensive and container piers, accommodating international cruise ships and cargo vessels with a load capacity ranging from 30,000 to 50,000 tons.


In the developmental stages, by 2020, 2 to 3 new piers will be constructed for vessels of up to 50,000 tons (excluding auxiliary piers). By 2030, the plan is to add 2 cargo piers for 50,000-ton vessels and 1 international cruise ship pier for ships up to 225,000 GT.


The customs clearance capacity is anticipated to grow from 0.1 - 0.2 million tons per year in 2020 to 0.3 - 1 million tons per year in 2030.
