Growing Interest in Destination Weddings
At the 2024 Da Nang Wedding Tourism Development Conference, Ms. Lalpuria expressed her optimism about Da Nang's potential as a destination for lavish weddings. She plans to collaborate with local partners to attract couples seeking a unique and memorable wedding experience.
Addressing Specific Needs
During their visit, Ms. Lalpuria and representatives from other wedding tourism companies from India and Thailand identified areas for improvement to attract destination weddings. These include streamlining visa processes, ensuring English-speaking staff, fostering collaboration with local partners, and adapting to emerging wedding trends.
Emerging Trends
Lisa Viegas, Director of the Destination Wedding Planner Congress (DWP Congress), highlighted the growing popularity of incorporating technology into weddings, such as AI-powered design, QR codes, and drone photography.
Personalization is also key, with couples seeking unique and authentic experiences. Additionally, sustainability is becoming a significant factor, with eco-friendly weddings and intimate celebrations gaining traction.
Da Nang's Preparations
Cao Tri Dung, Chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association, emphasized the city's commitment to supporting international wedding planners with visa procedures and other services.
Nguyen Thi Hoai An, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Tourism, outlined the city's initial steps towards becoming a sought-after destination for high-end weddings.
These include strengthening partnerships with professional organizations for training in wedding tourism, fostering a community of wedding planners, and collaborating with businesses in central Vietnam to create larger, more competitive companies.
Pilot Program and Early Success
Ms. An also introduced a pilot program to attract destination weddings to Da Nang from 2024 to 2025, with the message "Da Nang – Where Happiness Begins." The program targets weddings with 50 or more guests at Da Nang hotels and resorts.
Even before the official program, Da Nang welcomed couples for destination weddings. In 2023, the city hosted around 100 wedding events with 24,000 guests, generating revenue of 200-300 million VND per event.
In the first five months of 2024, Da Nang hosted four weddings from India with over 1,200 guests and advised 26 couples interested in the city.
